Your data and privacy

Account and privacy

Your household's records belong to your household. This article covers the short version. The full privacy policy and terms of service each have their own page.

Who can see what

Everyone in your household sees the house's work orders, maintenance and devices. Some things depend on your role:

  • Kids can't open the house's documents, like insurance policies or the alarm layout.
  • Teens can't by default. An organizer can change that.
  • Only organizers can add people, change roles, download a backup or delete the household.

Organizers set the rest in Settings → What each role can do (see Invite your family).

Where your data lives

Walt runs on Cloudflare, which stores everything encrypted. Sign-in tokens are stored hashed, so even a copy of the database couldn't be used to sign in as you. Sign-ins for the services you connect are sealed and never leave the server.

The assistant

When you use Ask Walt, or Walt estimates how big a job is, the text and photos involved are sent to the AI provider that answers. They aren't sold and aren't used to advertise to you. The privacy policy names the providers Walt uses.

Kids and teens can't use the assistant or connect outside apps, at any age.

Messages you send us

What you write through Contact support, the help pages' Open a case, or to support@heywalt.app goes to Help Scout, the helpdesk we answer from. It arrives with your name, email, role, household name, the page you were on and any screenshot you attach, so we can reply. Send feedback stays in Walt, screenshot included, and never goes to Help Scout.

We don't sell your data

Walt has no ads and no data brokers. Your household's data is shared only with the service providers named in the privacy policy, and with the services you choose to connect.

How long Walt keeps things

  • Chore and job photos. When kids hand in a chore or a job, they can add one photo of the finished work. It's deleted as soon as a parent taps Not yet, and 90 days after a parent approves it. Ask kids to photograph the job, not themselves.
  • Signed-in devices. A phone or browser nobody has used for 90 days is signed out, and its sign-in is deleted.
  • A cancelled subscription. Walt turns read-only and keeps everything for a year. Resubscribe any time in that year to pick up where you left off. After the year, the household is erased.

Download a backup

An organizer can download everything at any time: open Settings, scroll to Your data and tap Download next to Download a backup. You get one zip file with every record and photo.

Delete your household

An organizer can delete the household from the foot of Settings. Tap Delete this household forever…, type the household's name to confirm, and tap Delete household forever.

This removes every person, work order, photo and record permanently. It can't be undone, so download a backup first if you might want anything later.

Contact support

The quickest way to reach the Walt team is from inside Walt. It sends the page you were on along with your message, so we can see what you saw.

  1. Open the menu and tap Contact support.
  2. Pick what you need help with: Something's broken, Billing, My account or Something else.
  3. Say what's going on. For a problem, say what you tapped and what happened.
  4. Tap Send to support.

We answer every request by email, at the address on your Profile. A kid without an email gets the answer through a grown-up in the house.

If you can't sign in, use Open a case on the help pages, or email support@heywalt.app with your household's name and what you were trying to do.

Send feedback, in the same menu, is for ideas, something confusing, or something you like. We read every one, but we don't reply to feedback.

Before you write:

  • Can't sign in? Ask for a new sign-in link on the sign-in page. Links and codes expire after a while.
  • Can't see a page or a button? It may be turned off for your role. Ask an organizer in your household (see Invite your family).
  • Didn't get an invitation? Check your spam folder, or ask an organizer to open the ⋯ menu next to your name and tap Resend invite.
  • Notifications not arriving? See Notifications.

Walt can't send help. For a leak, a gas smell, a fire or anything dangerous, call the right emergency service or a professional first.
