A work order is one thing around the house that needs doing. Walt numbers them, like #42, so the family can say "is #42 done?" out loud.
File one
On your phone, tap the round + at the bottom of the screen. On a computer, open Work orders and tap +. A title and how urgent it is are all Walt needs. Add a photo when you can.
The rest is optional:
- How big: from 5 minutes to half a day, or No idea.
- Where: the room or place it's in.
- Planned for and Due by: when you mean to do it, and when it has to be done.
- Someday idea — no dates, no nagging: parks it without a date so it doesn't nag anyone.
Type @ and a name in the details to bring someone in. They get a notification.
Follow it through
Every work order moves from Open to In progress to Done. Tap the status to move it along, or tap Mark as complete when the job is finished.
Tap any fact on a work order to change it: the title, details, assignee, urgency, room, dates. Each one opens a small editor of its own.
Break it into tasks
Bigger jobs go better in pieces. Tap + Add a task to add a sub-task, like "Order a new furnace filter". Each one can be ticked off on its own.
You can also write a checklist straight into the details. A line that starts with - [ ] becomes a box you can tick:
- [ ] Turn off the water under the sink
- [ ] Take the old tap off
- [ ] Fit the new tap and check for dripsAssign it
Open the ⋯ menu and tap Assign… to give it to someone. They get a notification, and it shows on their Now what? list.
Follow someone else's work
Tap Follow on any work order to hear about comments and status changes. When someone @mentions you, Walt follows that work order for you. You can turn that off under Auto-follow when mentioned (Profile → What you hear about).
When one job waits on another
Some jobs can't start until another one is done: you can't paint until the drywall is patched. Open Blocked by on the work order and add the other one's number. The waiting work order shows what it's blocked by, and the other one shows what it blocks.
Comments
Use the comment box at the bottom to talk it over. Type @ to mention someone. Everything said stays on the work order, so the history is there next time.
