Maintenance is the work that comes back on a schedule: furnace filters, smoke detector batteries, the water heater flush, the car's oil change. Tell Walt about the things in your house and it keeps the calendar for you.
Add your things
- Open House → Things and tap Add a thing.
- Tap one of the Common things to start, or type your own, like "Generator, garage".
- Add the make and model if you know them. A photo of the nameplate works too: tap Read the nameplate and Walt fills in what it can read.
When Walt knows the model, it can bring in the maker's own service book. Otherwise it suggests the maintenance most things of that kind need, and you pick what to keep.
Add a step yourself
Open the thing and add a step for whatever it needs, like "Replace the filter". Give it an interval: every so many months or years. Cars and machines with an hour meter can also go by miles or hours. Whichever comes first makes it due.
If you know when it was last done, say so. The first due date counts from then.
See what's coming due
Work → Maintenance shows what's coming due around the house. Each step shows how often it repeats and when it's next due.
Mark it done
When you've done it, tap Mark done on the step, then Done ✓. Walt records it as done today, and the next due date counts from today. You can note what was done, who did it and what it cost, but every field is optional.
Turn it into a work order
If a step needs planning, or someone else is doing it, tap + Work order on it. It becomes an ordinary work order you can assign, comment on and follow.
Vehicles
Cars live under House → Vehicles. Add one and Walt shows what any vehicle is due for, using the odometer as well as the calendar. If you connect the car's account, the odometer stays up to date on its own (see Connect your devices). Walt also checks for open safety recalls.
