Walt works best when everyone in the house can file what they notice. Each person gets their own sign-in and a role that decides what they can do. Only an organizer can add people.
Add someone
- Open Settings and tap + Add someone beside Family.
- Enter their Name.
- Add their Email if they have one. Their invitation goes there. Without one, Walt gives you a link to send them yourself.
- Pick their Role (see below). You can change it later.
- Add a Birthday if you like. It's optional and lines the kids up oldest first.
- Tap Add and invite.
Invitations last 7 days. If one expires or gets lost, open the ⋯ menu next to their name and tap Resend invite.
Kids without an email
A young child doesn't need an email address. Add them without one, then open ⋯ → Setup code next to their name. Scan the QR code with the tablet or phone they use, or type the token shown under it.
Roles
There are four roles. Everyone in a household is family; there's no guest or contractor role.
- Organizer can do everything, including adding people, changing roles, downloading a backup and deleting the household. Organizers can't lock themselves out. A house can have more than one.
- Adult runs the house day to day: work orders, things, maintenance, devices, documents and settings. Adults can't add people or change roles.
- Teen can file and update work orders and use connected devices, like turning the heat up.
- Kid can file work orders and see the family board.
Everyone can file a work order. That's the point.
Change what a role can do
Every house is different, so most of these are switches. Open Settings → What each role can do to turn powers on or off for adults, teens and kids. A few stay fixed for safety: only organizers can manage people, money stays with grown-ups, and kids can't open the house's documents.
You can't change your own role. Another organizer has to do it.
Remove someone
Open the ⋯ menu next to their name and tap Remove. Their sign-in stops working immediately.
